Beaches Habitat is the Jacksonville Beaches’ chapter of Habitat for Humanity, a Christian housing organization dedicated to the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live.
Beaches Habitat has been in operation since 1991. During that time, the organization has built or rehabilitated over 400 homes in our community. The main housing program offers qualified families a hand up, not a hand out. Following a period where families pitch in at least 300 hours of sweat-equity building homes for other families, they are then offered an opportunity to purchase their own Habitat house, on terms that are affordable within their household income. In addition to building homes, Beaches Habitat also offers after-school tutoring, mentoring, and classes on preparation for home ownership.
Community Presbyterian Church has been a long-time partner with Beaches Habitat. We typically provide build site volunteers on the second Saturday of each month. Construction experience is not necessary; Habitat provides the on-hands guidance for all levels of volunteers, along with the tools and safety equipment to make it a safe and rewarding experience. Habitat makes it a point to provide an appropriate on-site job for everyone who comes out to help.
Beyond our monthly build assistance, there are other opportunities to assist Beaches Habitat. If you would like more information, please contact Eric Wild from the CPC Mission committee (ericwild30@comcast.net) or Sarah Jared, the Community Outreach Director at Beaches Habitat (volunteer@BeachesHabitat.org).
